Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. response to Charlottesville, VA events

Official Statement

This past weekend hate groups and domestic terrorists rallied in Charlottesville, Virginia to promote their message of white supremacy, fascism, anti-Semitism, and bigotry. Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. cannot stay silent at the sight of recent events and condemns these acts and any violent and hateful actions by anyone. Our message would always be one of inclusion and tolerance.

Our distinguished organization believes in the principles of freedom and justice for all people regardless of, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or country of origin. As our fraternal creed states, “…as to positively influence Latinos, and all others in the nation”, we are making a call to action to all the citizens of our country and all our voted officials to acknowledge and, admit the severity of the issue, as well as work towards an immediate and long term solution to the division of our nation and its people.

As a national organization we extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the individuals affected by these reprehensible events. Our fraternity pledges our support to the students and faculty of the University of Virginia. In addition, we are committed to doing as much as we can to change the current environment and sentiment. We will be working with our individual chapters to roll out different programs that will address these type of issues, as well as promote active discussion and education. We, the brothers of Lambda Sigma Upsilon, Latino Fraternity Incorporated, stand together and united against their hate and strongly believe that we can be a channel for change by spreading knowledge and brotherhood.

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” – Nelson Mandela
