Thank you for taking the time to learn about our organization.
Now let our Brothers get to learn more about you.
Before going any further, we encourage you to take the time to research as many other fraternal organizations available as you can. Speak to your university’s Greek Advisor to let him or her know that you are interested in Greek Life and opportunities available on campus.
If you think Lambda Sigma Upsilon might be for you, follow these steps:
- 1 - Locate your local chapter.
- 2 - Reach out to the chapter's representative expressing your interest.
- 3 - Attend an informational meeting, historically known as a "Rum and Salsa".
- 4 - Get to know the chapter brothers and await further instructions.
Who can join?
As stated in our constitution:
No person shall be denied membership because of race, color, sexual orientation, creed, religion, national origin, disability or HIV status.
However, we do require the following for eligibility:
- Must be enrolled full-time in a 4-year accredited institution
- Must have greater than 2.5 cumulative G.P.A.
- Must have attended at least two “Rum and Salsa” Informationals.
What exactly is a “Rum and Salsa?”
A “Rum and Salsa” is an informational meeting hosted by brothers of Lambda Sigma Upsilon and open to any member of the community to attend. It is the perfect opportunity to be introduced to local brothers of the Fraternity, learn about our history, mission, and goals, and have your questions answered in person.
Despite the colloquial name, alcohol is NEVER served at any “Rum and Salsa” meetings. Rather, it’s a form of homage we pay to our founding fathers, who used to meet and bond together over rum and salsa dancing after a long day of community activism and service.
LSU is not recognized at my school, what should I do?
Although we are one of the fastest growing Latino-based fraternities in the country, our numbers may not have yet reached your community. If you wish to create history and start a lasting legacy by establishing a chapter please contact [email protected]
